Description
The Elbow Pass Fire was first reported as smoke on July 12, 2012 at 12:40 PM. Throughout the afternoon the fire grew to an estimated 200 acres by 5:00 PM that evening. The fire is located a short distance NW of Elbow Pass in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. After the reported smoke it was quickly decided that this fire would be managed for suppression. A full load of 10 smoke jumpers was ordered and arrived on site at approximately 2:00 PM. Additionally a Montana Department of Natural Resources helicopter provided assistance with bucket drops of water and four aerial tankers dropped retardant on the fire throughout the afternoon.
The fire is located approximately 24 air miles WSW of the town of Augusta, and is approximately 4 air miles SW of Wood Lake. A noticable level of smoke drifted into the Augusta area.
